Happy Holidays in Sturbridge

November, December, January & February

Textile Weekend at Old Sturbridge Village
Early November brings a two-day celebration of early 19th-century New England needlework, featuring demonstrations, tours, hands-on activities, exhibits of early American samplers, quilts, and other textile artifacts, and afternoon tea with special guest  lecturers.  And, a quilt challenge is underway - come see the quilts made by Village staff and volunteers and members of the local guild, Cornerstone Quilters, inspired by a circa 1840 quilt from the Village collection. The quilts will be hung in the Visitor Center for this weekend, with prizes to be awarded, including a "Viewer's Choice" ribbon. For more information, call 1-800-SEE-1830, or visit www.osv.org

Fireplace Feast at The Historic 1705 Salem Cross Inn
Relax and watch, or lend a hand in the Colonial preparation of your meal.  Savor a piece of Prime Rib roasted on the only known circa 1700 Roasting jack still in operation in America.  Enjoy a plentiful portion of New England’s Best Apple Pie.  Find out more by calling 508-867-8337 or visit us at www.salemcrossinn.com.

Traditional Thanksgiving Dinner
A Traditional New England Thanksgiving feast with all the trimmings is offered to groups at our Orchard Banquet Rooms. Folks travel hundreds of miles, year after year, to experience our Thanksgiving celebration. We suggest making reservations well in advance as our Thanksgiving tables fill up fast. We will serve the traditional Turkey Feast on Thursday, November 28, 2002, with seatings from 11:00 am to 6:00 p.m. at the Orchard Banquet Rooms. Thanksgiving Day Celebration at Old Sturbridge Village
A New England Thanksgiving in the 1830s was, in some ways, much like our own today. Visit the Village museum to see what was on the holiday dinner table when today’s familiar traditions were forming (for one thing, there was no waiting for the pies, they were served right alongside the meats and vegetables!), and see what other activities were customary at the time.  For more information, call 1-800-SEE- 1830 or visit www.osv.org.

Spirit of the Season at Old Sturbridge Village
Enjoy the sights, sounds, and scents of the season and explore the history of Christmas traditions in the setting of a 19th-century Village. In December, the Center Village is transformed by exhibits that tell how Christmas came to New England. Capture the Spirit of the Season as you stroll the festively decorated Village by day, escape the bustle of the modern world, and experience the coziness of candlelit houses and shops in the Center Village during special Friday and Saturday evening programs -- Christmas Traditions by Candlelight.  Visit www.osv.org for dates and times and further details, or call 1- 800-SEE-1830.  Bring your skates and take a spin on the skating area on the Common, then stop into the Miner Grant Store and Bake Shop for some cocoa or hot cider to warm up. On weekends all month, everyday during Family Vacation Week (Dec. 26-31), and on New Year's Day, enjoy a horse-drawn sleigh or wagon ride around the Common.
